When you saw our church name, perhaps like most people you wondered...

-"What does 'Federated' mean?"
-"Is there a 'Federated' denomination?"
-"I've never heard of a Federated Church?"

Federated means 'a union of organizations under a central agency.'

In our case, we are a union of the First Baptist and First Congregational Churches of Grass Lake. Both congregations were established in 1835 and were united as the Federated Church of Grass Lake on April 14, 1918.

One of the main purposes of uniting the two churches was to promote Christian unity and more effective cooperative ministry in this community.

Today, we continue to seek to make our church more inviting so that more people may be one with God through Jesus Christ as Jesus prayed in John 17:

"I pray that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in me and I am in You. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You sent me. I have given them the glory that You gave me, that they may be one as we are one. I in them and You in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent me and have loved them even as You have loved me."

We believe that while there are many congregations & denominations, there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, and one Church, the whole Body of Christ.

We are affiliated with the American Baptist Churches/USA and the United Church of Christ and work cooperatively with other congregations.
